The Wine Estate

Château La Crabière is a 20-hectare estate, of which 11.5 hectares are under vine. Sunflowers, meadows and woodland complete the domain. The estate is situated in the Côtes du Frontonnais wine region of south-west France.

The Côtes du Frontonnais

The vineyards are located 25km north of Toulouse. The area is spread over 20 villages around the town of Fronton. The terroir of silts, clay and gravels covers about 2,000 hectares of the terraces above the river Tarn. It is a very old wine-producing region; vines were first planted here by the Romans. Traditional grape varieties, such as Negrette, still form the basis of the wines.

The Owners

Sarah and Angus Cameron took over the estate in 2004. Prior to this, Sarah studied viticulture and vinification and worked in UK wine production.

History

Château La Crabière was established as a vineyard in 1953 and has produced award-winning wines ever since. Through investment and some modernisation we aim to continue this fine winemaking tradition.

Our Logo

Crabière is an Occitan word meaning “goatherd”. It is derived from the Latin cápra, or goat, which became craba in southwest France. One who looked after goats was therefore a crabier or crabière. Historically, the land upon which the vines are planted was known as La Crabié, which evolved into La Crabière.
